Nakba 78 Tour in Ireland: BADIL Reaffirms the Demand and Obligation to Impose Sanctions

(Bethlehem, 22 May 2026)

BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, in partnership with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC), implemented a weeklong tour focusing on the 78th year of the ongoing Nakba, reiterating the demand and obligation of all states – including Ireland – to impose sanctions.

The tour contained a wide variety of activities including presentations and film screenings in five IPSC branches: Monaghan, Limerick, Ennis, Dublin and Meath. BADIL highlighted the acceleration of Israeli colonization, the imposition of the Decisive Plan, and the increasing impact of the closure apparatus in the West Bank resulting in further fragmentation and enclavement in Palestine. Discussions concerning Israeli aggression against Lebanon and Iran and how these issues are connected to Israeli colonial expansion beyond Palestine were prominent among the hundreds of attendees.

BADIL also participated in a radio interview with Clare FM, re-iterating all the points above emphasizing the need for ending Israeli impunity through sanctions and a decolonial reparative approach for the Palestinian people – not though performative gestures.

In a meeting with political party representatives of the Dáil Éireann, the lower house and principal chamber of the bicameral parliament of Ireland, BADIL highlighted the failure of the Irish government to uphold its obligations to impose sanctions. Furthermore, the Irish government continues to stall on the Occupied Territories Bill and another bill to impose sanctions on the Israeli regime was shot down – denying the demands of both its people and the Palestinian people.

In light of the fact that calls for sanctions continue to be ignored, a meeting was held with at least 36 representatives of non-governmental organizations, unions, other civil society groups and activists concerning what must be done to end the ongoing Nakba and genocide. BADIL responded that there must be more strategic direct actions that disrupt the status quo and have material cost. Only then will states have no other choice than to impose sanctions.

The main event of the tour was participation in the IPSC National March which took place on 16 May, through the streets of Dublin and culminated in a rally in front of the government building housing the Dáil Éireann. BADIL was the keynote speaker, despite the fact that its message was completely omitted in an article by the Irish Times covering the march.

Emphasizing the important role and unwavering dedication of the solidarity movement, BADIL applauded Irish solidarity in particular and the need to end Irish complicity by ending €20 million dual use technology deals, using Shannon Airport to supply military and other products, athletic tournaments with Israeli teams (Stop the Game!) and all other partnerships that enable the ongoing Nakba and genocide.

BADIL expresses its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Irish people for their solidarity, and especially the IPSC for their strategic partnership and decades-old support.
