BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights carried out a follow-up field visit in Khirbet Tal al-Hamma in the northern Jordan Valley to evaluate the agricultural initiatives that have been implemented since the beginning of this year in cooperation with a group of partners in Mandatory Palestine.
The visit mainly included an assessment of the condition of the piece of land where agricultural initiatives were implemented by The Palestinian Youth Forum, “Save the Jordan Valley Campaign, “Right to Water” Campaign, Women’s Cooperative of Bardalah village, and other volunteers from partner community-based organizations. Previous activities in the area included cleaning the area, building a fence, and planting grape, olive, and shade trees during the first months of 2023.
In the past few months, BADIL implemented an initiative that focused on establishing an in-ground water network to irrigate crops by installing a water tank, a pump, and building a pipe network. However, the continuous attacks by the Israeli colonizers on the residents of the Jordan Valley, especially the lands of Tal Al-Hamma, resulted in sabotaging the water network, assaulting farmers, and destroying crops.
BADIL and its partners will continue with their project which aims at supporting the resilience and resistance of the Palestinian people, specifically in areas threatened with confiscation and exposed to continuous attacks by different Israeli colonial bodies. The most recent activity of the program was the implementation of a community bazaar to sell Palestinian agricultural and handmade products specifically from the lands of the Jordan Valley.
