BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights, in partnership with Ibdaa’ Organization and the Global Palestinian Refugee Network (GPRN), organized a community bazaar for local crops and Palestinian handmade products on 17 September 2023. The bazaar was held in Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem, with the participation of over 15 women from different villages who brought their products to sell. Hundreds of Palestinians and some internationals from the Bethlehem area visited the bazaar and purchased the available products
Several Palestinian male and female farmers from the Jordan Valley area participated in the event, in addition to the Women’s Cooperative of Bardalah village. BADIL, in partnership with the Palestinian Youth Forum and volunteers from different Palestinian community-based organizations in Mandatory Palestine, have been cooperating with communities and cooperatives in the Jordan Valley to enhance their resilience. BADIL has implemented community resilience activities in the Jordan Valley on lands threatened with confiscation. These initiatives supported farmers’ cultivation of the land and providing a public gathering space for the benefit of residents of neighboring areas. Farmers from the villages of Battir, Wadi Fukin and Al-Khader also participated in the bazaar.
This event comes within the context of a project implemented by BADIL to support Palestinian farmers and enhance their steadfastness and resistance to protect their lands, which are threatened with confiscation on a daily basis in several areas of the West Bank, specifically in Area “C” in the Jordan Valley. This project also aims to strengthen the culture of individual and collective resistance in the face of the policies and practices of confiscation and displacement pursued by the Israeli colonial-apartheid regime. BADIL aspires to create models of steadfastness and resistance, especially within Palestinian communities that are exposed to constant and continuous Israeli colonial practices.
