BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights conducted its second Al Awda Training School for this year, held from 11 to 13 July 2025, and attended by 20 participants (11 females, 9 males) from different areas in Mandatory Palestine.
The school focused primarily on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people through a critical reading of UN resolutions related to the right to self-determination and the right of return for Palestinian refugees and internally displaced persons, in addition to the concept of reparations. The school also highlighted the changing behavior of the colonized under the domination of the colonizer and colonial policies.
The training included a workshop on the concept of normalization, which reviewed various issues in the colonial context, in addition to discussing the most prominent current Palestinian issues, most notably the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, and the importance of terminology in the Palestinian political context.
The school included a field trip to the city of Bethlehem, implemented by a member of the Palestinian Youth Forum (PYF), during which participants learned about the city's most significant political historical events. Participants also visited the village of Al-Walaja and learned about the experience of Omar Hajajleh, and his struggle to maintain his right to his land for him and his family.
In the context of strengthening the role of Palestinian youth in community work, a volunteer work day was held at the Martyrs' Cemetery in the village of Irtas, during which the cemetery was cleaned.
It is worth noting that Al Awda Training Schools are an essential part of the programs implemented by BADIL, which aim to strengthen communication and engagement between Palestinian youth from various regions of Mandatory Palestine, in addition to enabling them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to raise their voices in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people.
