BADIL’s Intervention at UNHRC#58: Only Sanctions Can Ensure Accountability, Protection and the Palestinian People’s Rights

On 27 February 2025, in response to the report of the High Commissioner on Palestine, which focused on the “obligation to ensure accountability and justice,” under Item #2 of UNHRC#58, BADIL Resource Center called on states to uphold their obligations imposing sanctions against the Israeli colonial-apartheid regime for its innumerable crimes spanning over 76 years and the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip.

BADIL further highlighted that the Israeli regime’s perpetual refusal to fulfill its obligations requires an immediate and direct response from the international community to provide international protection to Palestinian refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). This also requires sanctions and measures to ensure the full access and operations of UNRWA to fulfill its mandate.

Only sanctions can ensure an end to the impunity that the Israeli colonial-apartheid regime enjoys, and that the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and return are put into practice.
