BADIL Webinar: “Confronting the Ongoing Nakba and Genocide: Resistance, Solidarity and Accountability”

On 20 May 2024, BADIL hosted a webinar titled “Confronting the Ongoing Nakba and Genocide: Resistance, Solidarity and Accountability.” This event was part of BADIL and the Global Palestinian Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Network’s (GPRN) global call to actions confronting 76 Years of Ongoing Nakba and over 6 months of Ongoing Genocide as highlighted in May’s 2024 campaign.

 

The webinar featured, panelists Sophia Al-Issa and Layan Choufani who presented BADIL’s publication: “Forced Displacement and Transfer as an Act of Genocide in the Gaza Strip”, showcasing how Israel has systematically used forced displacement and transfer of the Palestinian people as a pillar to 76 years of Ongoing Nakba. Rania Muhareb, a PhD researcher at the University of Galway, and Irish Centre for Human Rights spoke about third-states obligations, and the nessesary measures to halt the genocide. Lea Kayali, a member of the Palestinian Youth Movement and a student organizer at Harvard University discussed the role of the student movement as part of the global solidarity with Palestine. 

 

This 1.5-hour webinar, was moderated by Cathrine Abuamsha from BADIL, was held in English with simultaneous interpretation into Arabic. It was attended by over 40 participants from various countries.
