BADIL’s Interventions at the 56th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council
BADIL’s Interventions at the 56th Regular Session of the Human Rights Council

BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights submitted 2 oral interventions within the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva (18 June – 12 July).

Both oral interventions occurred under Item 3; the first in the interactive dialogue (ID) with the Special Rapporteur (SR) on the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the second in the ID with the International Expert (IE) on International Solidarity.

The first oral intervention highlighted that Israel’s genocide includes deliberate destruction of the environment, intentionally making Gaza unlivable for the long-term and obstructing the rights to return and reparations for internally displaced Palestinians.

The second oral intervention, pointed to states’ responsibility to not only support the actions of the global solidarity movement, but also the Palestinian struggle for liberation. In failing to uphold that responsibility, states are in violation of their obligations while simultaneously entrenching their complicity in Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip.
