BADIL Resource Center Conducts the Fifth Session of the 'Palestinian Women's Stories' Project on Photography

On 31 March 2023, BADIL Resource Center conducted the fifth session of its project ”Palestinian Women's Stories'”  focusing on honing photography skills. ُEngaging a dedicated group of participants from partner grassroots organizations,  the project targets 25 Palestinian women (18-29 years old) from all over Mandatory Palestine and Lebanon. This diverse group  has common  interests in fields of  media, writing, storytelling, and documentation.

The project’s fifth session, held at Lajee Center in Aida refugee camp,   consisted of a workshop to enhance participants’ media and photography skills, delivered by the  photographer and trainer Mohammed Al-Azza. The workshop trained participants on camera components and its basics of usage, on techniques for artistic facial portraits, and on handling light and shadows without making common mistakes. To solidify their gained knowledge with practical experience, the participants were taken on a short field trip in Aida refugee camp where they captured images that weave narratives, as seen through the lens of the photographer.

This training and workshop is designed to enhance  and develop new technical and media skills among  the participants. The core objective is to enable them to incorporate artistic images and highlight them in the stories they will write about the lives of Palestinian women engaged politically, socially, and/or economically.

This project is part of BADIL's strategy, which aims to empower rights holders, especially  women and youth who are marginalized, with the necessary tools and skills to amplify their voices and their struggles as Palestinians and women.
