Under the slogan “Resistance Until Liberation and Return,” BADIL implements the First Al Awda Training School of 2024

As part of the program activities of “Confronting the Ongoing Nakba Campaign”, BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights implemented the first Al Awda School of 2024 for 3 continuous days (3-5 May 2024) in partnership with multiple community-based organizations in Mandatory Palestine, with 29 participants between the ages of 18-29 years old (17 females, 12 males).

This training focused on the concept of the Ongoing Nakba and the Israeli policies of forcible displacement, coinciding with the annual Ongoing Nakba campaign carried out by BADIL and the Global Palestinian Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Network on local and international levels. The school also discussed the most important current Palestinian issues, especially Israel’s over 7 months long genocide in the Gaza Strip, through an intensive program of workshops and lectures. The most important political and legal terms in the colonial context in Palestine, the impact of the Israeli fragmentation policies on the Palestinian identity regarding Palestinian youth, and Israeli suppression of resistance were presented.

The school also included field visits to Aida and Dheisheh refugee camps in Bethlehem, meetings with other community-based organizations in both camps, visits to the families of pre-Oslo prisoners and martyrs whose bodies are withheld in Israeli refrigerators and “Number Graveyards,” in addition to the implementation of volunteer work in collaboration with Lajee’ Center and Ibdaa’ Organization.

Al Awda Training Schools are a vital part of BADIL’s programs, which aim to enhance Palestinian identity and cohesion, in addition to empowering youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to raise their voice to demand the rights of the Palestinian people, especially Palestinian refugees and internally displaced persons.
