RESIDENCY IN JERUSALEM
ID Card Confiscations:
NO NEW OFFICIAL FIGURES
Despite frequent inquiries,
the Israeli Interior Ministry has not released information concerning the
number of Palestinian ID cards revoked between May - December 1997.
NO NEWS FROM THE KNESSET
A proposal for a Knesset
law amendment to stop ID-card confiscation in Jerusalem was submitted by
MK Azmi Bishara (Democratic Front - National Democratic Alliance) on 9
July 1997 and passed the first Knesset vote (see ARTICLE 74/21). Since
the Knesset resumed its sessions in October, following the long summer
recess, the agenda of Israel's political parties have been dominated by
other priorities, and no additional steps on the law proposal have followed
until early December 1997.
