BADIL participates in a Geneva UN Roundtable on the Legal Aspects of the Question of Palestine

30 April 2014. BADIL Resource Center participated in a UN Roundtable in Geneva on the Legal Aspects of the Question of Palestine. The two-day roundtable, which took place on 24 and 25 April 2014, was organized by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. The meeting focused on the following issues:

-The first session was about the legal status of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in international law, and the UN procedures and mechanisms to address the issue of political prisoners, including the possibility of involving international courts.

-The second session was about the legal mechanisms to ensure compliance with international law and third party responsibility, focusing on the responsibilities of the occupying power under international humanitarian law; the character of the prolonged occupation; and the possibility to address the International Court of Justice.

The meeting was a good opportunity for BADIL Resource Center to promote its 2014 advocacy strategy, and to uphold the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in particular the right to self-determination.
